General texts are one of the most common texts to be proofread. But what do we understand by general texts?
General texts are texts, which are understood by laymen. They are texts that do not need an extensive knowledge, or for which a translator has to be specified. The language used in these texts is simple and to the point. They are thus texts which are aimed at the general public.
Examples of general texts:
- Manuals (e.g. kitchen appliances)
- User guides
- Fantasy books
- Cover letters
General texts must be error free and easily written as they are aimed at the general public. These texts set an example from which many people learn. It is thus important to make sure theses texts are written with care and with a specific target audience (people who should / would / will read the text) in mind.
